<p>This project was introduced a year ago. Construction is currently underway.  In the northwest direction from the junction of Bayview and 16th Avenue, you&#8217;ll find The David Dunlap Observatory Park. Half of the park on the side of Bayview road is developed as a residential complex and the park is upgraded. It is a large-scale housing complex built in a really good location.</p>

<p>In the map above, the inside of the red boundary becomes the housing complex, and the yellow color indicates the boundary including the park. </p>

<p>Let us have closer look on this too. There will be a new arena (Skate Link, Elvis Stojko Arena) and a tennis court on the west side of the elementary school currently seats on the 16th Avenue entrance.</p>

<p>Do you recognize the name, Elvis Stojko, named for the arena here? He is a famous Canadian skater who swept the world figure skating in the 1990s. He won three world championships and seven Canadian championships. In the Olympics, he won only the silver medal twice, including the silver medal of the 1998 Nagano Olympics. He was born in Newmarket Ontario.</p>

<p>A little bit about this observatory, which opened in 1935. The plan started at the University of Toronto, led by Professor Clarence Augustus Chant, in 1921. David Dunlap, a lawyer and mining businessman and his wife Jessica  financed for for the project. Sadly, David Dunlap died in 1924, but his wife Jessica completed it all the way to honor David Dunlap.</p>

<p>This astronomical observatory which is proximate to the city of Toronto, was actually proud to role some great jobs in the astronomical history of the world. While it greatly helped researchers and students at the University of Toronto to study astronomy, surprisingly, they found, in this observatory, the black hole in the universe for the first time in the human history. In 1972, for the first time in human history and named it Cygnus X-1.</p>

<p>Since this observatory is not very far from the city of Toronto, it was recognized for its many advantages, but since the 1960s, the city lights which produced from Toronto became too bright to make &#8220;light pollution&#8221; to the observatory as the city developed, making it not dark enough to look at the universe. As a result, the University of Toronto established an observatory in Las Campanas, Chile, and another great achievement was made here in 1987, in which the discovery of a supernova called &#8220;Supernova 1987 A&#8221; in the clouds of the Greater Magellan.</p>

<p>Since my childhood dream was a space scientist, I am delighted to get this information of its existence and I am attached more to this historic observatory. The University of Toronto sold the observatory in 2009 to the Toronto Chapter of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada, and is now open to the public for educational events.</p>
